Facts on our Worm based Sewage Treatment

We use the legendary Tiger worms in our Eco Sewage Treatment Systems (worm based treatment systems) or to give them their proper latin name, Eisinia Fetida. These are also known as the red wiggler, brandling worm or dung worm.

This is a common earthworm.  It is found extensively around the world in various habitats and not only in the ground.  This is a common worm to use as fishing bait but also used for the composting of waste materials! It is probably the most widely used worm for vermicomposting

A list of some things these robust worms will eat:

  • Egg shells (worms need calcium and egg shells are an excellent way of supplying this and keeping the bin from getting too acidic)
  • Coffee grounds and tea bags
  • Cereals
  • Fruit
  • Annual weeds (not seed heads)
  • Tomatoes
  • Bread!
  • Green leaves
  • Cow/horse manure
  • Vegetable peelings
  • Sewage from households
